Christmas, Lisbon,

Lisbon, known and commended for its famous light during the day, gets even brighter at night during the Christmas season. The city and its streets gain a special brightness and a festive atmosphere, with its Christmas lights and decorations displayed throughout various central areas of the capital until the beginning of January.

One of the great attractions that mark the beginning of the festive period in the city, starting in late November, is Wonderland Lisboa, an outdoor fair/amusement park, located in the Eduardo VII Park area, with varied activities, such as the Santa Claus' village, the Ferris Wheel and the famous ice rink.

Another of the main events, officially marking the beginning of the festive season in the capital, is the giant Christmas Tree and the lighting of the Christmas lights at Praça do Comércio / Terreiro do Paço. This attraction is worthy of having an inauguration, with the presence of the Mayor. The Lisbon City Council usually puts up a special program, with many events and Christmas and New Year´s shows.

At Dom Pedro IV square, get in touch with the Christmas spirit by visiting the Rossio Christmas Market. In addition to its traditional wooden houses, handicrafts, and typical gastronomy of the season, it offers various entertainment options for the whole family. A Christmas train also runs through the different downtown streets.
